Industrial Lab Technician
Portage, MI.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide laboratory support/testing for new and existing business development, focusing on the Industrial, Technical, and Road Business Units.
- Operate pilot milling equipment to produce small samples for further product or customer application development.
- Perform laboratory bench studies as well as investigative literature researches in support of R&D efforts.
- Record results of testing, organize data, perform calculations, and prepare reports and analysis using standard procedures and guidelines.
Duties
- Perform testing using a variety of laboratory equipment, generating data for R&D projects.
- Test JRS materials in existing customer formulations and provide recommendations on type and amount of fiber required.
- Operate, and maintain laboratory test equipment / apparatus and pilot milling equipment.
- Work with other departments to provide data for new and existing products.
- Evaluate JRS fibers in specific customer formulations.
- Coordinate testing using outside lab services when appropriate and outside of current JRS lab capabilities.
- Maintain a safe and organized laboratory.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements, Skills and Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Chemistry / Engineering related degree, or prior related work experience.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Adept in use of MS Office, particularly Outlook, Excel, Word, OneNote.
- Able to work independently after initial direction.
- Able to conduct activities in a safe and conscientious manor.
- Strong sense of customer urgency.
- Strong math and analytical skills.
- Competent use of business English in formal communication via email, and letter.
Certifications/Licenses
- Valid driver’s license.

- This position interacts primarily with the Technical R&D Scientist and will interact with quality control, sales personnel and other JRS manufacturing facilities as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry 60 lbs.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Able to wear required PPE (such as: Safety glasses, hearing protection, N95 dust mask) for performing assigned tasks and responsibilities.

- 8:00AM – 5:00PM, 16 hours a week ; 1-hour lunch break
