Dryer Operator

Fosston, MN

Job Responsibilities
  • Housekeeping, including regular work areas and storage areas.
  • Take required samples and delivers them to the QA lab and communicate with the QA lab for results, test product for moisture and PH.
  • Communicates with previous shift, relief, supervisor and other operators to exchange information on process conditions and other pertinent issues.
  • Informs supervision of any unusual changes in process conditions, mechanical or electrical failures or malfunctions, unsafe conditions, etc.
  • Responsible for checking equipment to make sure it is working properly, cleans out equipment periodically and prepares equipment for product change.
  • Compliance with all Safety, Environmental and Operating Standards.
  • Report any Safety concerns to the Plant Manager as soon as they are identified.
  • Ensure plant equipment is operating at maximum efficiency.
  • General maintenance such as screen changes, lubricating equipment.
  • Conduct rounds throughout the production/packaging unit and record information on Shift Log Report, perform product quality checks as required.


Duties
  • Maintain proper moisture and quality of product being produced.
  • Monitor moisture, and for scorched particles at least once per hour and enter in log sheet while operating.
  • Check inside of dryer for powder buildup, and react accordingly to findings. (Inform supervisor of and problems during CIP of unit.)
  • Inspect sifter screen, magnet and report to supervisor any concerns.
  • Properly clean dryer.
  • Test CIP solution strengths and log on CIP log.
  • Service pumps and valves as needed and/or per preventative maintenance.
  • Aid in the training of new personnel.
  • Report immediately to supervisor of any damage, irregular activity, or unsafe conditions concerning the equipment.
Minimum Job Requirements, Skills and Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED preferred.
  • Must have negative pre-employment and/or subsequent drug/alcohol test results.
  • Regularly attends work on time and as scheduled. Contacts supervisor/designee when delayed, sick or otherwise unable to be at work as scheduled.
  • Is knowledgeable of and complies with JRS USA LP’s handbook policies and procedures.
  • Displays a positive and respectful demeanor at all times towards fellow coworkers and maintains a positive company image.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently as well as work within a team environment. Demonstrates teamwork by cooperating with and assisting coworkers as needed.
  • Demonstrates ability to work under pressure, in stressful situations and with frequent interruptions.
  • Adapts well to change.
  • Read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Effectively present information one-on-one and small group situations to customers or other employees of JRS USA LP.
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instruction.
  • Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Know proper established start up and shut down procedures.
  • Self-starter and effective communicator with the ability to interact with plant personnel on a daily basis.
  • Proven multi-tasking skills and the ability to work independently in a team environment.
  • Ability to operate a forklift.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Valid Driver’s License.
Interactions and Tools/Equipment Utilized in the Job
  • Basic hand tools.
  • Forklift.

Physical Requirements
  • The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is required to frequently - constantly sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Other Information
  • 7:00 am – 7:00 pm, 7:00 pm-7:00 am, Monday – Friday. 
  • Rotate every two weeks. 30-minute lunch break.
  • Overtime as needed.

  • All rules and regulations of the Employee Handbook apply at all times.
